Organization & Objectives
The CMMR was established in June 2002 at The Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids) in Toronto as a unique Canadian resource for the collection and distribution of mutant mice and samples generated from mutant mice. Our primary goal as a live mouse, embryo, germ cell and tissue repository is to collect, cryopreserve, store, and distribute mutant mouse models or tissues from these models to support Canada’s mouse genome effort. The Canadian Mouse Mutant Repository (CMMR) aims to:
- Cryopreserve the biospecimen resources of the genome-wide mutagenesis
program at the CMHD in Toronto,
- Establish a biospecimen repository for the physical archive of live
mice, embryos, germ cells, and tissue generated from mutant mice,
- Contribute to mouse cryobiology research & development,
- Establish a central mouse biospecimen repository and distribution
centre in Canada to support the Canadian Mouse Consortium’s participation in NORCOMM (North American Conditional Mouse Mutagenesis Project), KOMP (NIH Knockout Mouse Project), and EUCOMM (European Conditional Mouse Mutagenesis Program), and
- Operate in coordination with other repositories worldwide
The benefits of archiving your lines of mice and samples generated from mutant mice are:
- Reduced number of mutant lines maintained as live animals
- Freed-up space in your animal colony
- Protection against genetic drift
- Protection against disastrous event(s)
- Long-term secure and monitored storage with web access (www.cmmr.ca)
to your archived samples, and
- Easier distribution of mice or germplasm, or tissue samples to
collaborators and international repositories partnered with the CMMR
